Dr. Neil Aldrin Mallari
President and Chief Scientist
Dr. Neil Aldrin Mallari is the founder of CCIPH and currently serves as its President and Chief Scientist. He is an ecologist, a biodiversity conservation specialist, and a conservation advocate with more than 30 years of experience in wildlife conservation, habitat restoration, climate change mitigation and adaptation, strategic planning, environmental program design and evaluation, knowledge management, and capacity building. Doc A, as he is fondly called by his colleagues, has written seminal and multi-awarded publications that have become the templates for the conservation agenda of the Philippines including Threatened Birds of the Philippines and Key Conservation Sites in the Philippines.
A system change leader, Dr. Mallari has extensive experience in working with government agencies, funding agencies, development partners, and the private sector and has influenced important conservation policies and investment portfolios for biodiversity conservation. These include leading program development and directing various programs/projects/activities in the Philippines designed to implement and promote biodiversity conservation, improve protected areas management, climate change adaptation and mitigation program of work, habitat restoration, strategic planning, and organization development.
He has also worked with senior government counterparts to influence important conservation policies such as the Philippine National Red Listing, PBSAP, Protected Areas System Master Plan of the Philippine Government. Currently, he leads the development of the Sukat ng Kalikasan, Green Assessment Framework, and Green Recovery Program with USAID and the Philippines’ Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
As a social entrepreneur, Dr. Mallari has been instrumental in transforming several organizations, including the Haribon Foundation and Flora and Fauna International Philippines, into self-sustaining and respected NGOs. Additionally, he has founded or co-founded several other organizations, such as the Biodiversity Conservation Society of the Philippines, Mindoro Conservation Foundation, Polillo Islands Biodiversity Conservation Foundation, and the Philippine Biodiversity Conservation Foundation.
Through CCIPH, Dr. Mallari established an interdisciplinary initiative and platform to promote science-based understanding, tools, and decision-making frameworks that collaborate with a diverse group of stakeholders, including civil society organizations, government agencies, business leaders, and the next generation of conservation advocates, to create conservation solutions.
