The CCIPH Biodiversity team participated in the 10th World Congress of Herpetology (WCH10) from August 5th to 9th, 2024, in Kuching, Sarawak, Borneo. The event, which marked the largest herpetological meet-up in Malaysia, was attended by around 1,400 delegates from 70 countries.
During the event, CCIPH representatives Louise Abigail De Layola, Rhiana Parr, and Wyne EdaƱo presented their posters showcasing reptiles and amphibian species in the Philippines. Dr. Arvin Diesmos, the Chairman of the Board of CCIPH and an eminent Filipino herpetologist himself, also attended the event.
The WCH10, which is held every three to four years, is organized by the World Congress of Herpetology, the IBEC – Institute of Biodiversity and Environmental Conservation at the Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), and Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak). The event is held in collaboration with the Global Amphibian and Reptile Disease Conference and the Global Ranavirus Consortium (GRC), with support from various other organizations.
During the five-day gathering, prominent scientists, researchers, and professionals convened to discuss recent advancements, exchange knowledge, and join forces in global conservation initiatives. The event effectively promoted research, education, and conservation efforts in herpetology by encouraging communication among individuals, societies, and other organizations passionate about amphibians and reptiles.
