8:00am to 5:00pm with one-hour lunch break

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Generate GIS digital data, thematic maps, map layouts and other spatial products in support of CCIPH’s projects covering mapping software, GPS, ground-truthing, satellite and aerial imagery
  • Collate and encode spatial data (e.g., biophysical, environmental, socioeconomic, resource utilization, cultural, and HCVs) and their corresponding metadata (very important) with appropriate attribution to facilitate data archiving, retrieval and processing
  • Support the custodian of spatial data, who is the Geospatial Information Solutions Technologist, while ensuring that electronic maps are assigned with metadata and stored in designated storage devices, indexed to locate data efficiently and with appropriate backup to secure datasets
  • Provide GIS technical expertise to LGU’s, NGO’s and other stakeholders by participating in other GIS-related activities such as, but not limited to photointerpretation, remote sensing, protected area delineation, land/water use zoning, climate change, ecosystems services, GIS capability building and technical assistance to partners, as need arises
  • Develop training activities for partners on different levels of GIS to develop local capacity that responds to both local and national needs
  • Ensure that maps appearing in reports and publications are in relevant layout format and assessed for quality in coordination with the project manager and geospatial solutions unit while observing CCIPH’s intellectual property rights policy prior to release
  • Participate in and provide GIS technical inputs into planning, project development events and report writing
  • Work together with CCIPH technical units, partner offices and other CCIPH geospatial support staff to assemble and co-register all maps of vegetation or forest types, land uses (built-up areas, pastures, secondary forests, crop fields, etc.), climate, coastal and marine geographical features, geomorphology, and any other maps interpreted from satellite imageries and aerial photography or derived from digitized sources
  • Observe mapping conventions and quality that will be consistent with both national and global standards
  • Assist the geospatial solutions team in organizing meetings and training events
  • Prepare meeting documentations and technical reports and contribute to developing technical papers and new projects
  • Whenever needed, the position should provide inputs and assistance on various projects with the approval of the Geospatial Solutions Team Lead


  • Minimum qualification of Bachelor of Science in Geography, Earth Sciences, Environmental Sciences or related disciplines, but with specialization and extensive experience in geographic information systems
  • At least 5 years experience working in conservation and natural resource projects
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in the application of geographic information systems and/or aerial photogrammetry for land/forest cover mapping using manual and digital interpretation techniques, preferably with spatial analysis and modeling experience, e.g., species distribution modeling, but not a strict requirement; and
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in using GIS software for spatial analysis.
  • Skills in programming using Visual BASIC, Phyton or RS macro languages, a plus, but not essential
  • Has ability and patience to articulate institutional mandates and goals to partner institutions
  • Demonstrated experience in the design and implementation of spatial techniques and processes for conservation and ecosystem services at the national and local level
  • Demonstrated ability in partnership arrangements and consensus building while working with local communities, mentoring individuals and motivating fieldbased teams
  • Knowledge on the spatial dimensions, issues and concerns as these influences ecosystems services and conservation undertakings
  • Familiarity with and applicable skill in any of the primary, spatial data generation using technologies of GPS, satellite imagery interpretation or any other from geodesy
  • Demonstrable proficiency in relevant GIS software is essential
  • Has technical-level oral and written communication in English;
  • Able to coordinate multiple tasks efficiently and perform well under pressure
  • Able to work beyond designated hours when necessary and enjoys field work
